Okay so this post has nothing to do with my beloved Macbook, other than the fact that it is burning the tops of my thighs as I type.
My Mac is so powerful it burns my thighs.I expect Apple will soon beg me to use that line in their advertising to convert still more PC users to the growing Apple empire.
I start my Pediatrics clinical rotation tomorrow! I'm a complete Bambi when it comes to pediatric medicine so I should learn a lot. Fortunately, my height (=oh-so-short) seems to encourage kids to like me before I open my mouth. They always seem to think I'm the one in the room who is close to their age. As a result, my high school babysitting schedule was always booked solid. I was (and okay, still am) a nerd, so it's not like I had anything else to do on Friday & Saturday nights. Or Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays for that matter.
I've spent the last week with my classmates getting oriented to our clinical rotations. Much of it was more tedious than enlightening (at times board study looked attractive!), but the highlight was placing IVs, nasogastric (NG) tubes, & Foley catheters (pictured above) in simulated humans. It was nice to practice these invasive techniques in a less pressured format and I imagine someone somewhere will be glad that I first practiced inserting a Foley in anyone but him (or her).
I'm suddenly excited to learn all the procedures I once thought I'd merely tolerate. I can't wait to get all the practice I can get in drawing blood, placing IVs/indwelling catheters/NG tubes, changing wound dressings, & suturing wounds. Maybe I'll even work up the nerve to place a central line. Well, let me not get ahead of myself here. Wish me luck!

As far as I know, you smell sweet & pretty all the time. Not sure what pretty smells like but if it is a scent resembling how you look, you must, by default, always smell pretty!
You should get a laptop cooler for your Macbook. They're inexpensive, keep your thighs cool, and most importantly, keeps your harddrive and processor from burning out too quickly.
oh thank freaking god. someone had the wits to practice. My most horrifying moment in hospital as a kid was the nurse saying don't worry if your nervouse about having your first ng placed cause it's my first time placing ne we can be nervouse together. It DID NOT MAKE ME FEEL BETTER i was like 'no F**king way i am waiting for next shift to start. funny now i can do them at home and yes i do them better then the students although they all crowd round to watch when i did them myself after a while lolz
Anon, I'd be impressed to see you place your own NG tube. Please let me know if you have any tips about how to place one while inflicting the least amount of pain!
